Job Duties and Summary:

  • Assist courts with offender cases, sentence alternatives, agency programs, and rehabilitation choices by providing accurate, timely, and consistent information.
  • Report verbally and in writing to various courts, such as the Special Circumstance Court, the Murri Court, and other court diversionary programs, in accordance with agency policy and procedure and as requested by the court.
  • Use the relevant agency assessment tools to interview offenders and determine if they are suitable for community-based orders.
  • Conduct necessary research on offender files
  • Coordinate the collection of pertinent court documents with the appropriate supervising officers.
  • Provide court advice in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, including QPS, JAG Officers, legal representation, Indigenous agencies, and other community agencies.
  • Assist courts with research and recommendations regarding applicable provisions of the Penalties and Sentences Act and the Corrective
  • Services Act
  • Ensure that all information pertaining to advisory services, including their outcomes, is documented accurately in both local and the IOMS systems.
  • Notify upper management of any particular court mandates pertaining to the Agency’s mandated duties and responsibilities.
  • Documents submitted for prosecution must be carefully compiled, prepared, and reviewed.
  • Get bench charge sheets ready as needed.
  • Verify that the paperwork is under the purview of the Agency and complies with all applicable laws
  • Keep one’s own understanding of applicable and up-to-date laws as they pertain to court breach concerns and make sure that paperwork is consistently high quality

Minimum Requirements/About the Applicant

  • Coordinate paperwork preparation with appropriate District Offices
  • It is important to comply with all legal requirements when disclosing pertinent documentation.
  • Keeping a court journal and meticulous records of prosecution processes, including particular court decisions, is essential.
  • Try cases involving community-based orders before the Magistrates’ Courts.
  • Provide support and input when creating plans for case management.
  • Address culturally specific concerns of offenders in your care in a proper and suitable manner.
  • In compliance with Agency policy and practice, handle the cases of offenders who are subject to community-based orders.
  • Fill out offender-related agency-specific evaluation and planning papers.
  • Support the work of parole and probation
  • Ensure that QPS, JAG, and other court-based agencies have productive working relationships; cultivate, strengthen, and sustain them.
  • Build and sustain fruitful partnerships with service providers in connection with court interactions.
  • Make sure your internal and external networks are very powerful.
